Legacy, the male fertility clinic and at-home sperm testing and cryopreservation platform, has launched an upgraded at-home semen collection kit that includes the ProteX Semen Collection Cup, a proprietary cryogenic preservation system developed in partnership with Reproductive Solutions.
What the ProteX cup does
The ProteX cup is designed to maintain sample integrity for up to 24 hours under defined conditions, minimize exposure to external environmental factors, reduce leakage risk during transport, and preserve specimen integrity during handling and shipping. It retails for $99.95 but will be included in every Legacy semen analysis and cryopreservation kit at no extra charge to patients or clinics.
How it improves on previous kits
Legacy's existing at-home solution already demonstrated approximately 30% faster transit times and an average of 11% greater motility retention versus competing at-home testing options. The ProteX cup aims to further strengthen consistency of collection and transport while maintaining the convenience of at-home workflows.
Clinical evidence
A retrospective IVF study at Columbia University Fertility Center evaluated more than 1,000 ICSI cycles comparing ProteX-collected samples with standard collection methods. Additional retrospective studies have explored laboratory and early clinical observations associated with at-home collection workflows using ProteX technology.
Who it serves
The upgraded kit targets fertility clinics, reproductive urologists, research organizations, and military health systems. Legacy operates a CLIA-certified, high-complexity andrology laboratory and maintains one of the largest proprietary datasets in male reproductive health.
Bottom line
The ProteX cup addresses a key pain point in at-home fertility testing: sample degradation during transport. By bundling a $99.95 accessory at no extra cost, Legacy is betting that improved collection consistency will drive adoption among clinics and providers who have been hesitant about at-home workflows.
