Overview
Sony has agreed to pay $7.85 million to settle a class-action lawsuit over alleged antitrust practices in the PlayStation Store. The suit, filed in the San Francisco division of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, accused Sony of limiting third-party retailers from selling PlayStation titles via “game-specific vouchers.” This effectively forced customers to buy digital games solely on the PlayStation Network, where Sony controls pricing without competition. Sony did not admit any wrongdoing, but the settlement is now moving forward after two previous rejections during the approval process.
Who Is Eligible
If you bought a digital game on PlayStation Network between April 1, 2019, and December 31, 2023, you are likely eligible for a payout. The settlement covers full-game downloads and DLC purchased during that period. A full list of eligible games is available at the PlayStation Digital Games Settlement website. Titles include The Last of Us, Resident Evil 4, and many sports games such as Madden, NBA 2K, and FIFA.
How to Get Paid
You do not need to file a claim. When the settlement is finalized, funds will be deposited directly into the payment accounts linked to eligible PSN profiles. If you want to exclude yourself from the payout or object to the settlement, you can file a written request. Accepting the payout waives your right to sue Sony over this issue in the future.
If your PSN account is deactivated or inaccessible, you can still request a check by calling (877) 777-9145 or emailing [email protected]. You can also mail your qualifying purchase information and current address to:
PSN Digital Game Settlement P.O. Box 17304 Milwaukee, WI 53217
The deadline to submit that request is August 27, 2026.
How Much Money Will You Get
Probably not much. The $7.85 million will be split among legal representatives and then evenly distributed across potentially millions of claimants. Individual payouts are likely to be a few dollars at best.
Timeline
The settlement hearing—called a Fairness Hearing—is currently scheduled for October 15, 2026. If the judge approves it, payments could take additional weeks or months to process. The settlement was first arranged in December 2024, but two approval requests were rejected. The original language said payments would be distributed after April 1, 2025, but that deadline has passed.
Bottom Line
Class-action settlements rarely yield large payouts for individuals, and this one is no exception. If you bought digital games on PSN between 2019 and 2023, you
